First Time Car Rental in Crete (Important Things to Remember)

Crete is one of the best vacation destinations in the world. It is an island in Greece that is famous for its crystal clear azure beaches, museums and archaeological sites. It’s a destination that offers a lot for a tourist to go through. And one of the best ways to experience Crete is to drive around in a car. That is why it’s best to rent a car in Crete when on vacation. But if it’s your first time renting a car in Crete, there are some things to remember:

1. Book a car beforehand.

For convenience, it’s important to book a car rental beforehand. Most of the time, car rental companies in Crete have websites that allow foreigners to book a car before landing in Crete. This way, the tourist won’t have to go through the hassle of finding a car when he’s already in the city.

2. Driving License and Driver Age.

You have to be 21 years old in order to drive a car in Crete and there are car hire in Crete companies that do not allow people aged over 70 to drive a car. You must wear your seat belt at all times on highways, in busy towns, or traveling through beautiful small Cretan villages. And of course a valid driving license is a must!

3. Check the Car Condition.

Try to take photos of the car that you have hired and check the car for old scratches before leaving the car rental office or the car rental park area at the airport. Report any damages on the car to the company representatives so you will have no problems later!

4. Know your car rental company.

Always get to know the car rental first before subscribing to the service. Know what’s included in the rental package. This will help avoid problems and any misunderstandings when it comes to the rental.

5. Keep the rental car company’s number handy.

Having the rental car company’s phone number stored in one’s phonebook will help you contact them easily in case a problem arises. Most car rental companies are very accommodating, and all one needs to do is to give them a call.
